Two of the passengers, one male and one female, died at the scene. The other three, all male, were injured. All five were teenagers or young adults.

It took firefighters nearly two hours to extricate the victims from underneath the dump truck, the Fire Department said. One was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, while the other two were transported by ground

None of the victim’s identities have been released. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident.
